Rick [Front Center] Within The Ruins Tour 2018

Rick Copeland started Itasca Light & Sound in the spring of 2021. Rick has been working in the music industry for 20 years and has had the chance to work with many world renown artists both in the studio and on stage. He has worked on several national tours including Rascal Flatts, The New Power Generation, Within The Ruins, and Carnifex. He has worked in dozens of venues in the Twin Cities area and even more across the country. In addition to the live event production work, Rick also has extensive experience in the recording studio. He has recorded music in some of the best recording studios in the country including Blackbird Studios, Criteria Studios, and Winterland Studios. He has reached #1 on the Billboard Gospel charts working as an Engineer on three different songs. Rick works alongside his wife, Janelle, whom he met while they were both Audio Engineer majors in college. They have been together for nearly 10 years and have enjoyed building their lives around the music, and people, they love.

Education

Institute of Production and Recording - AAS Audio Engineering

Rick attended IPR, majoring in Audio Engineering. He already had years of experience working in the music industry but wanted to expand his knowledge. Having more experience than most other students, he was highly regarded by all of his class mates. More often than not his peers would go to him, instead of the teachers, if they needed something. He completed his education in the summer of 2012 after having worked with many new bands and artists during his time there, and becoming certified in Pro Tools at an Expert level.

Recording Connection

After becoming part of the Recording Connection program, Rick received a comprehensive curriculum and was annexed to Winterland Studios to fulfill his education. Rick completed his curriculum requirements while interning, assisting during studio sessions, setting up session gear, learning the gear inside and out, and running his own independent recording sessions. Once he received his certificate of course completion he became a full time staff member at Winterland Studios.
